Nominations sought for community awards

July 13, 2021 - The Village is once again planning to recognize efforts made by organizations, individuals and businesses to improve Oak Park through property preservation, sustainability and accessibility.

Nominations are now being sought for the 2021 accessibility, aging in place, historic preservation and sustainability awards. Winners will be announced and recognized at a ceremony during a special Village Board meeting December 15.

The community stewardship awards were not administered in 2020 as Village staff focused most of its attention on its COVID-19 response.

Accessibility

The Disability Access Awards are chosen by the Disability Access CommissionBusinesses, organizations and other entities that provide extraordinary accessibility for patrons with disabilities and their families may be nominated for this award.

Nominations should be for efforts to provide easy access to people with disabilities, create an inviting physical space and offer a welcoming, helpful, service-oriented attitude. 

The deadline for nominations is Sept. 1. Find more details and an online nomination form at www.oak-park.us/accessawards.

Aging in Place 

The Aging in Place Awards will be chosen by the Aging in Place Commission. The Award recognizes businesses, organizations and other entities in Oak Park that provide extraordinary accessibility for older residents and their families.

Nominations should be for efforts to provide easy access to older residents, create an inviting physical space and offer a welcoming, helpful, service-oriented attitude.

Historic Preservation

The Historic Preservation Awards are chosen each year by the Historic Preservation CommissionNomination categories include restoration, rehabilitation, adaptive use, additions/new construction, stewardship, detail and design.

Nominations need not be in a historic district and interior work may be considered in conjunction with exterior work.

Sustainability:

The Green Awards are presented each year by the Environment & Energy Commission as a way of recognizing individuals, groups, green installations and organizations that have demonstrated leadership as stewards of the Oak Park environment.

This year the Village is broadening its efforts to recognize people, organizations, businesses, and volunteers who actively seek to help our community adjust to a rapidly changing climate.  Tell us who should be honored this year in 2021. Examples include energy efficiency, renewable energy, green infrastructure, water mitigation, climate action education, environmental justice, and composting education.

Nominations may be submitted on behalf of any person, organization, group or business.
