The Village is sponsoring a free, one-day Summer Martial Arts Day Camp for kids ages 6 through 14 who live or attend school in Oak Park.
The camp will be held the morning of July 12 in the Julian Middle School gymnasium, 416 S. Ridgeland Ave.
Camp sessions will last one hour and will be broken up by age:
- 9 to 10 a.m. - ages 6-8
- 10 to 11 a.m. - ages 9-11
- 11 a.m. to noon - ages 12-14
The Village’s Adjudication Office is coordinating the event and is working with local martial arts schools to bring the program to the community.

The Summer Martial Arts Day Camp will includes activities such as learning about blocks, kicks, punches, falls and throws. The camp is also intended to help kids develop skills that focus on discipline, confidence, awareness, personal edification and self-defense, including forms of conflict resolution and techniques for identifying danger. Physical fitness. flexibility, endurance, strength, concentration and coordination are also elements of the camp.
