Vehicle crash damages Chicago Avenue storefronts

Oct. 11, 2018 – A 25-year-old Chicago man has been charged in connection with an early morning crash in the 200 block of Chicago Avenue that severely damaged two store fronts.

Larell Jackson of the 4500 block of Wilcox Avenue in Chicago was charged with driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving on the sidewalk and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

According to investigators, Jackson was driving a 2002 GMC Yukon west on Chicago Avenue at about 2:15 a.m. when the vehicle left the roadway and hit a street light pole before the striking two storefronts. The impact damaged the support structure and caused the brick façade to collapse onto the vehicle.

One of the three passengers in the vehicle was transported to Loyola Medical Center for what officials called non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and two other passengers refused treatment.

All utilities have been disconnected and Village officials are assessing the structural integrity of the buildings.

The Police investigation is continuing.
