Police investigating North Avenue shooting incident

March 12, 2020 – Oak Park Police continue to investigate a shooting that took place at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 6100 block of North Avenue.

The 20-year-old victim, a resident of Chicago, was putting air in his vehicle tire when a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt, white mask and blue gloves ran south across North Avenue, approached the victim, removed a handgun from his sweatshirt and fired several rounds, striking the victim.

The offender then fled on foot back across North Avenue and entered a reddish/orange SUV that was last seen heading west on North Avenue.

The victim is in stable condition. No further information about the victim is available at this time.

The incident is the latest in a spate of shootings along North Avenue. While Police believe the incidents are not related, they also believe none of the incidents were random.

In response, the Police Department is stepping up its presence with additional patrols along North Avenue and the surrounding neighborhood.
