Police investigating first shooting incident of 2016

June 1, 2016 – The Oak Park Police Department is investigating the first shooting in the Village this year in what officials are calling an isolated incident not involving any Oak Park residents.

The shooting occurred at about 2:30 a.m., Sat., in the 1000 block of South Oak Park Avenue.

According to police, the victim and three companions had exited the CTA Blue Line station at Oak Park Avenue and were walking southbound on Oak Park Avenue when they exchanged words with the occupants of a sedan parked at the curb facing southbound.

Moments later, the sedan reportedly approached the group at a slow speed before witnesses heard one shot believed to have been fired from the driver’s side rear window. The vehicle then fled southbound on Oak Park Avenue.

The shooting victim, a 21-year-old male from Berwyn, sustained a gunshot wound to the torso. He was transported to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood where he was listed in serious but stable condition after surgery.

A motive for the shooting has not yet been determined. The investigation is ongoing.
