Police announce 2019 Holiday traffic enforcement campaign results

Jan 3, 2020 - The Oak Park Police Department partnered with the Illinois Department of Transportation and law enforcement across the state for the 2019 holiday “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

A total of 31 vehicles were stopped in Oak Park and 27 citations were issued.

Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in this effort to save lives by getting impaired drivers off the roads and more people buckled up. The enforcement campaign took place from Dec. 16 through Jan. 2.

During the mobilization, extra emphasis was placed on enforcement during late-night hours, when statistics show the most unbuckled and impaired driving fatalities occur.

The “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaigns are funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The crackdown runs concurrently with a media campaign reminding motorists that impaired driving has “Life or Death” consequences.
