Car taken in bump-and-run

March 28, 2018 – A thief drove off with a Chicago woman’s vehicle today when she got out to check for damage after her SUV was bumped from behind by another vehicle.

The victim told Oak Park Police she was driving her 2014 Ford Explorer north on Oak Park Avenue at Van Buren Street at about 1:30 p.m. when she was involved in what she thought was a minor accident after her vehicle was bumped from behind by another vehicle.

As she exited her car to check for damage, she said a man brushed by her, got into her vehicle and drove away.

The victim described the thief as African American in his 30s, about 6-feet-tall, with a heavy build, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and gray pants. The striking vehicle was described a gray, Scion hatchback with a spoiler.

Both cars were last seen traveling east on Jackson Boulevard. The stolen blue/green Explorer bore Illinois license plate TJ 6667.

No injuries were reported and no weapon displayed.
