2018 community awards celebrate stewardship

Dec. 13, 2018 - More than 60 individuals, organizations and businesses were recognized at the Village of Oak Park's annual community awards ceremony Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Village Hall.

The awards offer an opportunity for the Historic Preservation Commission, Environment & Energy Commission, Community Design Commission and Disability Access Commission to recognize citizens for their commitment to protecting Oak Park's heritage and making the Village a vibrant place for residents and visitors alike.

In a first, Rick and Mimi Comerford were recognized with both a Preservation Award and a Green Award for their property at 341 Harrison Street. The structures on the property are powered almost entirely by renewable energy, some were constructed using reclaimed brick, and the property even features flooring made of renewable Eucalyptus wood.

In total, eight Preservation Awards were handed out by the Historic Preservation Commission and seven Green Awards were distributed by the Environment & Energy Commission. The Community Design Commission recognized 21 Cavalcade of Pride Award winners and the Disability Access Commission presented three Disability Access Awards.
