VOP-TV series selected for foodie film fest

Sept. 9, 2013 - "You Really Should Eat This," a local series produced by VOP-TV and starring OakPark.com food critic David Hammond, will screen at the 4th annual Chicago Food Film Festival in November.

The series airs on the Village's YouTube channel and is broadcast regularly on VOP-6, the local cable channel. In each episode, Hammond introduces viewers to a specialty dish produced by an Oak Park restaurant and offers his own commentary on the dish's place in history.

VOP-TV Manager Joe Kreml takes viewers behind the scenes -- literally -- with mouth-watering food prep footage and interviews with chefs and restaurateurs. The whole package is edited down into a tight video, averaging about 4 minutes in length -- perfect for YouTube or television. You can catch "You Really Should Eat This" on Comcast channel 6 and AT&T U-Verse channel 99.

“Oak Park is full of great places to eat, and David is an excellent ambassador for our local cuisine,” says VOP-TV Manager Joe Kreml. “We’re looking forward to producing even more episodes in this series.”

Two episodes were selected to screen at the Chicago Food Film Festival: a segment on corned beef hash at George's Family Restaurant, and a segment on feijoada, a traditional Brazilian dish from Taste of Brasil Cafe.

VOP-TV has produced a total of five videos in this series, with more planned. If you'd like to suggest an Oak Park restaurant for a future segment, please feel free to email vopnews@oak-park.us.
