Plans for 1144 Lake St. no longer moving forward

Sept. 30, 2022 – Plans for Dom’s Kitchen and Market to occupy the vacant office space at 1144 Lake St. are not moving forward, the Village has learned.

According to officials involved in the lease discussions, Dom’s determined after completing detailed space plans that the two-story space did not work for its hybrid grocery concept.

Earlier this month, the Village Board approved a sales tax rebate sharing agreement with Dom’s that was contingent on the pending lease discussions between Dom’s and the property owner. The decision to not move forward with the plan nullifies the agreement.

The ground and lower level space at 1144 Lake St. has been vacant since 2011 when the Borders book store that previously occupied the space closed. Over the years the Village has approved several special use applications for other tenants, but those tenants ultimately chose not to move forward due to circumstances not attributable to ownership or the Village.

The building owner is actively pursuing other potential tenants with the ongoing support of the Oak Park Economic Development Corporation now that plans with Dom’s Kitchen and Market are not moving forward.
