March 9, 2022 - The Village is seeking help from residents in shaping Oak Park’s comprehensive Climate Plan.
The equity-centered, community-driven Climate Plan is expected to guide Oak Park’s sustainability efforts for years to come and help Oak Parkers stay and thrive in the Village in the face of climate change.
Residents are urged to provide feedback via an interactive platform at www.oak-park.us/climateplan.
The site allows visitors to play a budget game to hypothetically decide how to invest in climate action, complete a short survey about experiences and priorities for climate change and add comments to an interactive map as a way of sharing thoughts and ideas about climate solutions for Oak Park.
Warmer and wetter winters, springs with heavy precipitation and hotter summers with longer dry periods are just a few of the ways climate change is expected to impact the Midwest, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection agency.
Oak Park’s Climate Plan website includes a wide range of information about the science behind climate change and its potential impacts.
Residents are also invited to host their own conversation about climate change with friends, family or colleagues using the DIY Meeting Kit available on the website.
All input collected will be incorporated into the Village’s Comprehensive Sustainability and Climate Action Resiliency Plan due later this year.
The deadline for community input to be included in the Climate Plan is May 31.
