Spraying scheduled by mosquito abatement district

Sept. 16, 2015 - As part of its efforts to control mosquitoes that carry West Nile virus, the Des Plaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District has scheduled spraying in the Village of Oak Park beginning about 9 p.m., Thurs., Sept. 17, weather permitting.

Should unfavorable weather conditions prevail, spraying will be delayed to a subsequent night. A calm, rainless evening with temperatures no more than 80 degrees is preferred.

If spraying occurs, it will be the first time this season in Oak Park. However, the Des Plaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District has been spraying throughout its 77-square-mile jurisdiction.

West Nile virus has been found in birds and mosquitoes in 58 Illinois counties so far this year, including Oak Park. Ten human cases of the virus has been found in Illinois, resulting in three deaths.

Questions about spraying, including options for those medically sensitive to the insecticide, should be directed to 708.447.1765. Information also is posted at www.desplainesvalleymad.com.
