Village President Vicki Scaman Appointed to ICLEI USA Board
Published on March 26, 2026
Village of Oak Park President Vicki Scaman has been appointed to the ICLEI USA Board of Directors, joining a distinguished group of local government leaders from across the country committed to advancing sustainability and climate action.
ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability USA (ICLEI USA) is a global network of more than 2,500 local and regional governments established in 1991 and dedicated to sustainability and climate action. Led by and for local governments, ICLEI USA meets communities where they are and provides the tools, expertise and peer connections they need to advance their climate and sustainability work forward. As a member of the ICLEI USA Board, Scaman will help guide the organization's strategic direction and advocacy on behalf of member communities throughout the United States.
In 2022, with Scaman as Village President, the Village Board adopted Climate Ready Oak Park, a comprehensive and long-range plan developed in response to the global climate crisis. The plan offers an ambitious vision, concrete commitments and actions that can be undertaken by all community members and organizations.
Scaman is among seven new board members appointed at the ICLEI USA Board's most recent meeting. She joins fellow appointees from the City of Boulder (Colorado) Los Angeles County (California), the City of Savannah (Georgia), City of Albuquerque (New Mexico), the City of Detroit (Michigan) and the Skyline Foundation.
"I am truly honored to join the ICLEI USA Board and deeply grateful for this opportunity to represent Oak Park on a national stage," said Scaman. "Oak Park has long been committed to building a more sustainable and resilient community and I look forward to bringing that passion to this role. Working alongside such talented leaders from across the country, I am excited to help shape policies and initiatives that will make a real difference for communities everywhere. This is exactly the kind of collaboration our moment demands."
"ICLEI USA is a member-driven organization—our priorities are set by our members and led by leaders who represent them,” said ICLEI USA Executive Director Saharnaz Mirzazad. “Through an open process, we’ve selected a new Board that reflects the diversity of our network across communities and regions. I’m excited to work with this group as they help shape our direction and represent our members on the national and global stage."
Next month, Scaman will join fellow board members for an in-person meeting in Berkeley, California, where the group will also celebrate ICLEI's 35th anniversary.
