The Permit & Development Division is responsible for ensuring that the buildings, structures and properties within Oak Park are constructed, improved and preserved with regard to safety of life and property.

Planning & Urban Design

The Village of Oak Park works to maintain the character of the community by managing change through the Comprehensive Plan and business district plan recommendations.

Historic Preservation

The Village of Oak Park is noted internationally for its historic architecture, with styles including Queen Anne, Prairie School and Colonial Revival. Oak Park is known particularly as the home of Frank Lloyd Wright from 1889-1909, and holds the largest concentration of Prairie School architecture in America, including 25 designs by Wright.

Zoning

Zoning is a tool for achieving several important goals, including conserving property values, protecting the character and stability of the residential, business and commercial areas, and promoting orderly and beneficial development that supports the goals and objectives of the Village's Comprehensive Plan and recommendations from various business district plans.

Business Services

The main goal of Business Services is to respond to the ongoing needs of the business community and serve as a key partner in the growth and development of Oak Park 's businesses.

Code Compliance

The Code Compliance Division ensures homes and apartments comply with property maintenance codes and ordinances to protect the public health, safety and welfare of Village residents and visitors.
