It's easy to get a building permit. And it's an easy way to make sure the people working on your house have insurance.
Your home is probably your largest investment, so Village building officials ask you to please protect yourself.
Applying for a permit online at www.oak-park.us/villageview doesn't take long, and Village staff members are available to help.
All you need to start is the contractor's contact information. The contractor must supply proof insurance, similar to the proof of insurance drivers are required to carry in their vehicle.
If a company or contractor isn't insured, don't hire them. It's just that simple.
