Structure Fire at 1239 N. Taylor St. in Oak Park

Fire trucks on scene at 1200 block north Taylor on February 17, 2026

OAK PARK, Ill. – The Oak Park Fire Department responded to a significant structure fire on the 1200 block of N. Taylor Ave. at approximately 8:57 p.m. on Tues., Feb. 17. The fire continued until Wednesday morning just before approximately 7 a.m.

A passerby initially reported smoke and flames coming from a window at 1239 N. Taylor. The fire spread and a Level 1 box alarm was requested, bringing many neighboring fire departments to the scene to assist suppression efforts. The building was vacant and no one was inside at the time the fire broke out.

Additionally, a Level 1 Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS) request was made with additional support arriving to assist with traffic control as North Ave. was closed between Austin Blvd. and Ridgeland Ave.

No firefighter injuries were reported during the response. The Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) is leading an investigation into the cause of the fire.
