On Tuesday, Nov. 4, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the charge of first-degree murder against Miles Brooks in connection with the death of his brother, Anthony Brooks, in Oak Park on the afternoon of Sunday, Nov. 2. Miles Brooks is 23 years old and a resident of the 400 block of S. Ridgeland in Oak Park.
At approximately 1:47 p.m. on Nov. 2, the Oak Park Police Department responded to the 400 block of S. Ridgeland Ave. after a caller contacted 911 and stated that Miles Brooks had shot his brother Anthony Brooks, 26 years old, following an altercation inside the residence that the brothers shared. The caller related that they advised Miles Brooks to exit the residence unarmed. He complied with that instruction.
Upon arrival, Oak Park police officers located Miles Brooks unarmed and the 911 caller outside. Officers entered the residence to render aid and observed Anthony Brooks lying unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound to his head. Oak Park Fire Department paramedics also responded to the scene where Anthony Brooks was found deceased and later pronounced.
Miles Brooks was taken into custody outside of the residence shortly after and transported to the Oak Park police station without incident. He is currently being held pending a detention hearing that will be held at the Circuit Court of Cook County’s Fourth Municipal District courthouse in Maywood.
The Oak Park Police Department was assisted by the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and the Illinois State Police Division of Forensic Services.
