Metra Assumes Operational Control of Oak Park Commuter Train Station

Published on April 01, 2025

Following extensive discussions and a temporary extension of the previous Operation and Maintenance agreement, as of April 1, 2025, Metra has now assumed full responsibility for the operation, maintenance and security at the Oak Park commuter train station facility located at 1115 North Blvd.

Key Details Include:

  • Law Enforcement and Emergency Protocols: Metra Police will assume responsibility for safety and security at the facility. For emergencies, the public should contact the Metra Police at (312) 322-2800, available 24/7. Additional contacts include Customer Service at (312) 322-6777 or 312-MY-METRA and Non-Emergency Railroad Safety at (312) 322-6900x7233 or via email at safetyreporting@metrarr.com.
  • Substation Office Space: The Village of Oak Park vacated the substation office space on March 31, 2025, as requested. This space is essential for the deployment of Metra Police, who will manage law enforcement operations at the station. The Village, instead, has moved in the substation office space at the Holley Court Parking Garage located at 1125 Ontario St.
  • Operational Enhancements: In addition to assuming operational control, Metra will implement a series of facility upgrades. These include improved signage, enhanced lighting, additional security cameras, and the conversion of the current Oak Park Police Substation into a dedicated Metra Police Substation. Work is expected to begin on April 5.

The Village of Oak Park will continue to maintain the public right-of-way outside the station in a manner consistent with its approach across the entire community.

The Village of Oak Park remains committed to working closely with Metra during this transition period to ensure that residents and commuters are informed, safe, and well-served. A collaborative approach will be maintained to facilitate a smooth handover and to address any public inquiries regarding the changes.
