Focusing on men's mental health

Men’s mental health matters, and the Village is working with community partners to to break the stigma around the topic.

Many men face pressure to “stay strong,” but officials say seeking help is one of the strongest actions men can take. Here’s how you can support a friend, colleague or family member:

  • Be an active listener: Let them talk without interruptions or judgment. Sometimes, just being there is enough.
  • Recognize warning signs: Changes in mood, withdrawing from loved ones, or expressing hopelessness may indicate they need support.
  • Challenge stigma: Encourage open conversations about mental health. Remind them it's okay to not be okay.
  • Take action in a crisis: If someone talks about harming themselves or shows signs of an emergency, call or text 988 for free, confidential support.
