E.C.H.O. making impact through partnerships
Published on March 16, 2026
Strengthening care coordination for Oak Park residents through a reimagining of public safety is the essence of the Village’s E.C.H.O. initiative.
Now in its second year, E.C.H.O. (Engaging Communities for Healthy Outcomes) works to ensure residents are not left navigating complex systems alone during times of uncertainty.
By working with first responders, community partners, local nonprofits, businesses and concerned neighbors and families, the E.C.H.O. team follows up with community members following a 911 call or Village-initiated service and provides a warm handoff to care providers and resources in the community.
In 2025, the E.C.H.O. team responded to more than 700 calls for service, helping fill a gap that historically existed between emergency response and long-term support. The success of E.C.H.O.’s first year reflects what is possible when a community leads with collaboration and care.
Moving ahead, the E.C.H.O. team continues to refine its response model by identifying service gaps and working alongside community partners to build a system that is both responsive and sustainable.
Community Services Administrator Vanessa Matheny, who helps oversee the E.C.H.O. program for the Village, recently discussed the initiative on the Village's Inside Oak Park podcast - click here to listen to the episode.
