The Village of Oak Park, a dynamic community located just eight miles west of Downtown Chicago, is seeking a collaborative and experienced Assistant Director of Human Resources (ADHR) to join our well-rounded team. This leadership role supports the general management of human resources operations with a strong focus on benefits administration, employee relations and employee wellness and engagement initiatives.
The ideal applicant will have a strong background in municipal human resources with prior supervisory experience preferred. Operational execution, relationship building and strategic thinking will be key competencies in the role.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee and support HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and compliance.
• Manage the administration of employee benefits programs, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and excellent employee service.
• Lead the implementation of the employee wellness and engagement strategic plan that promotes a positive workplace culture.
• Provide guidance to staff on HR policies and procedures, ensuring consistent application across the organization.
• Assist with performance management, training initiatives, and organizational development strategies.
• Support the HR Director and serve in their absence when needed.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business, or related field (advanced certification such as SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP preferred).
• Seven (7) years of progressive HR experience, including benefits administration; municipal government experience is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of HR practices, employment laws, and effective wellness program design.
• Proven ability to build relationships, communicate effectively, and foster an inclusive workplace.
