Please join the community on Monday, May 26 at the “Peace Triumphant” monument in Scoville Park at 11 a.m. for the annual traditional Memorial Day ceremony.
This Memorial Day marks the 80th anniversary of V-E Day, the end of World War II in Europe. Remarks will remember the service and sacrifices of those who made this happen, including our women. More broadly, the ceremony will recognize and honor all of our veterans, especially those who lost their lives in service to our country.
Illinois Senate President Don Harmon and Village President Vicki Scaman have been asked to give welcoming remarks. Officers from the Oak Park Police Department's Honor Guard will post the Colors and offer a rifle salute. The History Singers will lead the group in patriotic singing and a bugler will play Taps as wreaths are laid. A local pastor will deliver an invocation and benediction.
