May 9, 2016 - Add expanded free parking in downtown garages to the list of parking changes designed to benefit downtown Oak Park shoppers and businesses.
The new rate schedule was approved by the Village Board to provide relief for drivers and shoppers during construction of the Oak Park Station development just east of Harlem Avenue. Prior to the increase, drivers could park for free for up to an hour in the downtown garages.
Residents and visitors driving to downtown Oak Park are encouraged to take advantage of new parking rates that allow up to 90 minutes free parking at Holley Court Garage and the new garage at Lake Street and Forest Avenue. Drivers are reminded that street and garage parking is free every Sunday throughout Oak Park.
The new downtown garage rate schedule (listed below) is expected to remain in effect until the completion of the Oak Park Station project, which will include a new five-level parking garage with 400-plus spaces.
The free parking increase follows several other recent measures aimed at expanding parking options in downtown Oak Park. These measures include Valet Oak Park, a new parking service operating in downtown Oak Park from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday. In February, the opening of the new state-of-the-art garage at Lake Street and Forest Avenue created 300 new public spaces at the site of the $99-million Vantage Oak Park private development.
The downtown garage rate change came at the request of area business owners who asked the Village to increase free parking available to customers during construction. Rates at the Avenue Garage are unchanged.

2.5 – 3.5 hours: $3
3.5 – 4.5 hours: $4
4.5 – 5.5 hours: $5
5.5 – 6.5 hours: $6
6.5 – 10 hours: $11
10 – 24 hours: $16
