Two Police officers injured when squad cars collide

Nov. 2, 2017 – Two Oak Park Police officers were injured when their squad cars collided at approximately 3:30 a.m., Thurs., Nov. 2, while responding to a call for assistance from another officer.

The two officers were transported to Loyola Medical Center. One officer has since been released. The other officer remains at Loyola undergoing tests to determine the extent of his injuries, which are not considered life-threatening.

The accident occurred in the intersection of Adams Street and East Avenue, just south of Madison Street. The two officers were in route to Madison Street and Maple Avenue in response to a call for assistance from another officer conducting a traffic stop.

One squad car was travelling northbound on East Avenue, the other west bound on Adams Street. The two vehicles collided in the intersection of the four-way stop.

The northbound vehicle came to a rest in the intersection. The westbound vehicle struck a parkway tree on the south side of East Avenue and slid west on the parkway before coming to complete stop.

Both officers were able to exit their vehicles, report the accident via radio and request medical assistance.

No other information is available at this time. The investigation is continuing.
