Police see results from drunk driving crackdown

Jan. 6, 2015 – The Oak Park Police Department participated in a holiday crackdown targeting drunk drivers and motorists failing to wear seatbelts. The enforcement campaign, which took place from Dec. 19., 2014 to Jan. 4, 2015, resulted in two arrests for driving under the influence and 28 citations for improper use of a safety belt. Additionally, 9 motorists were cited for using their cellphones while driving.

"People can get too wrapped up in the excitement of the holidays and make some seriously bad decisions," said Deputy Chief Anthony Ambrose. "If you have been drinking alcohol, you don’t belong behind the wheel. Never drink and drive."

The recent law enforcement crackdown was funded by federal traffic safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation and is part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns.
