Man sustains multiple gunshot wounds in gas station parking lot

July 6, 2016 - Oak Park Police are investigating a shooting early Monday morning that sent a 20-year-old Chicago man to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:42 a.m. in the parking lot of the Shell Gas Station at 401 W. Madison St. Emergency response officials reported the victim’s injuries are non-life threatening. While the motive is unknown, investigators say they believe the victim was followed to the scene from Chicago.

In an interview at the scene, Police said the victim told them he had walked to the entrance doors of the station to pay cash for a gasoline purchase. He said he was waiting outside the gas station’s locked doors for the on-duty attendant to return to the service window when the unknown offender approached and fired several shots.

The victim was transported to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood where he was scheduled to undergo surgery. Information on his medical status is not available at this time.
