Free mulch available behind fire station

July 26, 2013 - Bring a bag, a bucket or a pickup truck and help chip away (no pun intended) at the big pile of mulch located behind Oak Park's Main Fire Station, 100 N. Euclid Ave.

The mulch, a byproduct of the spring and summer storms that swept through the area this year, is free for the taking. Residents of Oak Park and the surrounding communities can stop by any time to grab some of the mulch. (The larger pile of mulch near the intersection of Lake and Forest, however, is closed to the public pending removal by contractors.)

Once it's gone, the Euclid site won't be used anymore -- but Public Works officials are looking into the viability of creating a more permanent location to offer free mulch and compost. For more information, e-mail publicworks@oak-park.us.
