June 24, 2016 – Oak Park will be getting 130 Divvy bikes at 13 stations beginning next week, the locations strategically chosen to provide residents and visitors with an additional two-wheeled transportation option.
Oak Park joins Evanston as the first Chicago suburbs to be able to enjoy bike share, thanks to a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Divvy allows riders to quickly get from one point to another, and is intended for short trips. A Divvy membership or pass offers access to bikes in Chicago, Evanston and Oak Park. Riders can take a bike from any station anywhere across Divvy’s network of more than 580 Chicagoland stations and return it to any other station.
The first six stations are scheduled to be installed Monday along the CTA Blue Line and Interstate 290. Six more stations are slated for installation Thursday downtown along the CTA Green Line and Metra tracks, near the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio, and by the Dole Branch of the Oak Park Public Library and West Suburban Medical Center in northeast Oak Park. The 13th station at Ridgeland Commons is expected to be installed in July.
Divvy will be introduced to the community during a special launch event from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, July 2 at the Oak Park Farmers’ Market. During the event representatives from Divvy and the Village will be on-site answering questions and handing out coupons to Oak Park residents.
An annual Divvy membership is $99, or $9.95 per month with a full year commitment. Divvy also offers a 24-hour pass for $9.95, an ideal option for anyone visiting Oak Park, just trying out the system or interested only in an occasional ride.
Members and pass holders are entitled to unlimited use of the system for individual bike trips of up to 30 minutes. Trips that last longer than 30 minutes incur usage fees.

Oak Park’s Divvy joins other regional bike share networks operated by Motivate International Inc., including Citi Bike, Hubway, Capital Bike Share and Bay Area Bike Share in providing a transportation network that serves residents across municipal boundaries with a single membership.
Divvy currently covers the largest service area of any bike share in North America and its riders have taken more than seven million trips since the service launched in Chicago in 2013.
In addition to expanding into Oak Park this summer, the program also is opening 10 new stations in Evanston and more than 85 new locations on Chicago’s west, south and far north sides, including the Austin and Garfield Park neighborhoods.
The Village of Oak Park has a long tradition of encouraging safe cycling with bicycle friendly share the road signs at all major community entry points, marked dedicated and shared bicycle lanes on numerous streets and bike racks located throughout the community.
In 2015, Oak Park was named a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists, a national bicycling advocacy group.
