The public is invited to help the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) update the county’s Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP), which is used to prepare for natural disasters and their impacts. The gathering will be held in the Veterans’ Room of the Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake St.
Emergency response officials say hazard mitigation planning is essential to creating policies and actions that can help reduce risk and future losses from incidents such as flooding, snowstorms and even tornadoes.
More information on the mitigation plan, future public meetings and plan updates is posted at www.cookcountyhomelandsecurity.org.
