Plan parking when snow in forecast
Sunday, January 14, 2018  ::   When snow is in the forecast, residents who park on the streets are urged to plan ahead. The Village has specific rules that go into effect when snowfall measures two or more inches.
Shots fired in attempted carjacking
Friday, January 12, 2018  ::   An Elmwood Park man told Police he was parked in his vehicle with the engine running in the 900 block of Belleforte Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. last night when he was approached by a man who tapped on the window, displayed a handgun and demanded he get out of the vehicle. The suspect fired shots as the victim began driving away.
Murder suspect held for mental health assessment
Thursday, January 11, 2018  ::   Charges against a Chicago man suspected of killing his 81-year-old Oak Park relative have been put on hold to allow time for a mental health assessment. Police say the investigation into the death of Patrick Dooley, whose body was found on Jan. 6 inside his Oak Park apartment, determined possible issues of mental health needed to be assessed before any criminal actions are considered.
Online portal down for upgrades
Thursday, January 4, 2018  ::   VillageView, Oak Park's online information processing system, will go down temporarily at 5 p.m., Thurs., Jan 4, but is scheduled to be back online by Mon., Jan. 8 with new features.
Take precautions when temps plunge
Tuesday, January 2, 2018  ::   When temperatures plunge and wind chills reach dangerous levels, residents are urged to limit time outdoors for themselves and their pets, as well as to check in on friends and neighbors who may need assistance. Local warming centers are open.
Third suspect arrested in attempted armed robbery
Thursday, December 28, 2017  ::   Information gathered by Oak Park Police detectives led to the arrest Wednesday of the third and final suspect in a Dec. 11 attempted robbery of a 7-11 store at 240 Chicago Ave.
Single-use bag fee in effect January 1
Wednesday, December 20, 2017  ::   As of Jan. 1, shoppers in Oak Park’s larger retail stores are being charged 10 cents for every single-use bag the merchant provides to carry home purchases. Reusable bags are available to all residents free of charge in the lobby at Village Hall and the Public Works Center.
Missing child found safe in Michigan
Tuesday, December 19, 2017  ::   The 6-year-old child taken Saturday by her mother during a court-supervised visit at an Oak Park restaurant has been found safe. The mother is in custody and the father on his way to pick up his daughter.
Phone, wallet taken from pedestrian
Monday, December 18, 2017  ::   Oak Park Police are investigating the robbery of a pedestrian that occurred at about 6:40 a.m., today near Harrison Street and Carpenter Avenue. No weapons were involved and no contact was made between the victim and suspect.
2017 community award winners recognized
Wednesday, December 13, 2017  ::   More than 75 individuals, organizations and businesses were recognized at the Village of Oak Park's annual community awards ceremony Dec. 13 at the Nineteenth Century Club.
