Woman drops purse, retreats before pair with handgun

Feb. 15, 2018 – A 33-year-old Oak Park woman gave up her purse to two men, one believed to be armed with a handgun, at about 8:20 p.m., Feb. 14, in the 400 block of Wisconsin Avenue.

The victim told Police she was involved in a video call on her cell phone and about to enter the courtyard of her apartment building when the two masked men approached. She said she saw what she believed to be a handgun, so she dropped her purse and keys and retreated into the courtyard.

The suspects picked up the purse, got into a small white car and fled north on Wisconsin Avenue, she said.

No injuries were reported.

The victim told Police both suspects were wearing ski masks, but she could see through the eyeholes that their complexions were light. She said both suspects were wearing black, hooded sweatshirts and black pants.

A small, white car was reported in a similar incident later that same night on Randolph Street at Harvey Avenue, but the suspects were a man and a woman. Police have not determined if the two incidents are related.
