Shots fired in attempted carjacking

Jan. 12, 2018 - An Elmwood Park man told Police he was parked in his vehicle with the engine running in the 900 block of Belleforte Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. last night when he was approached by a man who tapped on the window, displayed a handgun and demanded he get out of the vehicle.

The victim said he refused to open his vehicle door, and when the offender tried to open the back door, he began driving away. The victim said the offender ran away, but then turned and fired several shots before entering a maroon-colored vehicle parked nearby, which then fled.

No injuries were reported.

The offender was described as African American, in his early 20s with a thin build, wearing a black jacket with an Adidas logo.

The victim could provide no additional information.
