Shooting at Harlem and Garfield leaves one dead

Aug. 17, 2021 – Oak Park Police are investigating a fatal shooting reported shortly before 5 p.m., today (Aug. 17) on Harlem Avenue near Garfield Street.

According to preliminary reports, the victim was stopped in traffic while traveling north on Harlem when a second vehicle pulled up alongside the driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle and fired multiple rounds into the victim’s vehicle.

The victim was taken to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood where he later died.

The offending vehicle, described only as a dark-colored SUV, was last seen traveling west on Harrison Street from Harlem Avenue.

North bound Harlem Avenue was closed temporarily. The West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is assisting with the investigation.
