Running vehicle taken at gunpoint

Jan. 16, 2018 – At about 8 a.m. today, Jan. 16, a vehicle hijacking was reported in the first block of Pleasant Street.

The victim told Police he was cleaning the snow from his girlfriend’s car as it was warming up on the street when he heard a car door shut. When the victim looked up at the sound, he said he saw see a man dressed in dark clothes, a hood drawn tight over his head, wearing a face mask and armed with a handgun walking toward him.

As the victim backed away from the vehicle, he said a second man also wearing dark clothing entered the running vehicle and drove away northbound into the alley.

The suspect with the handgun then ran to a waiting car, which fled the scene westbound, the victim said. Neither suspect spoke to the victim or to each other, according to the victim.

No additional information on the suspects or the getaway vehicle was provided.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Oak Park Police Department at 708.386.3800. Information may be provided anonymously by calling 708.434.1636 or online at www.oak-park.us/crimetip.
