Predicted snowfall triggers emergency parking rules

Jan. 31, 2014 - With weather forecasters anticipating heavy snowfall overnight and into Saturday, Oak Park's snow emergency parking plan is in effect from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sat., Feb. 1.

The emergency parking plan, which prohibits parking on designated snow routes and restricts parking on other streets, will stay in effect until conditions are deemed safe by public safety officials. For details on the snow emergency parking rules - including a list of snow routes and parking restrictions on residential streets - visit  www.oak-park.us/snow or call 708.358.7669 (SNOW).

If you usually park on a designated snow route, you must move your car to a side street when the snow emergency parking plan is in effect. If you park on a street that is not a posted snow route, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. you must park on the even numbered address side of the street on even number days (east and north sides of street) and on the odd numbered address side of the street on odd number days (west and south sides of street). Visit www.oak-park.us/snow  for more details.

As snow gives way to cold temperatures, residents are urged to exercise caution when outdoors and to check in on friends, relatives and neighbors. Warming centers are open from 5:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. at West Suburban Medical Center, Erie Street at Austin Boulevard, and from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Rush Oak Park Hospital, 500 S. Maple Ave. Hours may be extended when weather conditions warrant. Oak Park Township, 130 S. Oak Park Ave., is a warming center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays for persons with disabilities and seniors 60 or older. Village Hall, 123 Madison St., also is a warming and cooling center from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. If transportation is needed, call the Police non-emergency number 708.386.3800.
