Police investigating shooting death on Chicago Avenue

Jan. 30, 2023 - The Oak Park Police Department is actively investigating a shooting death that took place in the vicinity of Chicago Avenue and Lombard Avenue in the early hours Saturday morning.

On Saturday, Jan. 28, officers responded to a call of shots fired at approximately 3:42 a.m. The victim, 31-year-old Chicago resident Rayshawn Hudgins, was walking westbound on Chicago Avenue when he was confronted by a vehicle that fired multiple shots with an unknown handgun. The vehicle fled westbound on Chicago Avenue. The preliminary police investigation indicates that Hudgins was targeted by an assailant.

Responding units discovered Hudgins on the ground near the north side of a garage on the 400 block of N. Lombard Ave. with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. He was transported by ambulance to Loyola University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:45 a.m.

The Oak Park Police Department has no reason to believe that there is any threat to the community at this time.
