June 5, 2019 – Four veterans from within the Police Department’s ranks have been promoted to high level command posts.
Joseph Moran, a detective commander with more than 25 years of experience with the Oak Park Police Department, was sworn in as deputy chief, joining Deputy Chief Frank Limon on the Department’s senior command staff.
Three veteran sergeants were promoted to the rank of commander – Donicio Silva, who joined the Police Department in 1994, Dave Jacobson who joined in 1995 and Shatonya Johnson, who has served here since 2000.
In announcing the promotions, Village Manager Cara Pavlicek stressed the importance of being able to promote from within the ranks of the Oak Park Police Department.
“Having the ability to build upon the experience and knowledge of individuals who already are serving within the Department is a definite advantage for ensuring the continuity and strong line of succession that is so important in a police department,” she said.
“Those already on the force not only know how the department functions day to day, but they also know the community, which is a key factor in being an effective member of the Oak Park Police leadership team.”
Oak Park Police Chief LaDon Reynolds echoed Pavlicek’s assessment of the importance of promoting from within.
“Each of the men and women who have assumed these critical leadership posts are proven leaders with the experience to help guide Police Department operations now and into the future,” Reynolds said. “I know this first hand because we have all served together during my career in Oak Park.”
As Deputy Chief, Moran will oversee the Patrol Division, which includes all of the men and women in uniform who police the community day to day.
Jacobson is Patrol Commander, Silva the Operations Commander and Johnson the Detective Commander.
