Juvenile held in connection with attempted carjackings

June 22, 2018 – A juvenile is in custody in connection with two attempted carjackings at about 5:30 p.m. yesterday in the 800 block of Belleforte Avenue and 1200 block of Columbian Avenue.

In both incidents victims reported they were approached by two men who demanded their cars and keys. One man displayed a handgun.

The cars were not taken in either incident and no injuries were reported. In both cases, Police say the offenders apparently could not start the cars.

A witness reported seeing the two suspects enter a silver Honda Civic. Shortly after a description of the vehicle was broadcast, a car matching the description was stopped by Chicago Police at 1000 N. Karlov Ave. The suspect was identified as involved in the Oak Park incidents.

The second suspect had fled on foot, according to the Chicago Police officers who had stopped the vehicle.

Chicago Police took custody of the suspect who was wanted for questioning in connection with an earlier carjacking in the city.

Both suspects were described as six-feet tall, in their 20s with dark complexions. One had hair in short dreadlocks and was wearing a green sweatshirt. The other was wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Oak Park Police Department at 708.386.3800. Information may be provided anonymously by calling 708.434.1636 or online at www.oak-park.us/crimetip.
