Juvenile in custody for bump-and-run carjacking

April 17, 2018 – A Chicago juvenile was taken into custody yesterday in connection with a vehicle bump-and-run carjacking Saturday in Oak Park after the vehicle was stopped in Chicago following a pursuit that began near the North Riverside Park Mall.

The victim told Oak Park Police her vehicle was struck from behind at about noon Sat., April 14 in the 900 block of South Elmwood Avenue. She said two men approached from the striking vehicle, ordered her out, and after a brief struggle, took her purse and drove away in her car, with both vehicles traveling north on Elmwood Avenue towards Garfield Street.

The stolen vehicle was spotted by North Riverside Police at about 5 p.m., yesterday (Mon. April 16) near the North Riverside Park Mall and pursued to the 4700 block of West Gladys Avenue in Chicago, where the four occupants abandoned the stolen car and fled on foot.

Chicago Police arrested two of the vehicle occupants, one who was later linked by the victim to the Oak Park carjacking. The two others suspects in the stolen vehicle escaped.

The two arrests were made after a television traffic helicopter crew alerted police that they had observed the pair enter the house on Gladys Avenue.

The investigation is continuing.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Oak Park Police Department at 708.386.3800. Information may be provided anonymously by calling 708.434.1636 or online at www.oak-park.us/crimetip.
