2016 community awards celebrate stewardship

Dec. 8, 2016 - More than 70 individuals, organizations and businesses were recognized at the Village of Oak Park's annual community awards ceremony Dec. 7 at the Nineteenth Century Club, 178 Forest Ave.

The awards offer an opportunity for the Historic Preservation Commission, Environment & Energy Commission, Community Design Commission and Disability Access Commission to recognize citizens for their commitment to protecting Oak Park's heritage and making the Village a vibrant place for residents and visitors alike.

This marked the first year that the Disability Access Commission handed out awards to businesses and organizations that provide extraordinary accessibility for patrons with disabilities and their families. MOMENTA (Academy of Movement and Music), Mama Thai and Lou Malnati's were the three award recipients.

Also during the ceremony, Oak Park's Historic Preservation Commission distributed eight Preservation Awards, the Environment & Energy Commission doled out eight Green Awards and the Community Design Commission recognized 24 Cavalcade of Pride Award winners.
