Residents have options for voting in November election

Local election officials are bracing for a big turnout for the 2016 Presidential Election, but options abound for voters looking to avoid potentially long lines at neighborhood polling places when Election Day arrives on Tues., Nov. 8.

Early voting…Early voting begins Mon., Oct. 24 at Village Hall, 123 Madison St., and continues daily right up to Election Day. Polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays. For more information on the 2016 Election, including a sample ballot, visit www.cookcountyclerk.com/elections.

Vote by mail…Registered voters also can vote by mail. To request a ballot, visit www.cookcountyclerk.com/elections, choose Vote By Mail in the left panel and fill out the application. The deadline to apply for a mail ballot is Nov. 3.

Register online…Oak Parkers who wish to vote in the 2016 Presidential Election but are not yet registered still have time to sign up. Illinois residents only need an Illinois driver’s license or ID to register or update a name or address online at ova.elections.il.gov. The deadline for online registration is Oct. 23.

Register at the Farmers’ Market…A representative from Oak Park Township will offer voter registration from 10 a.m. to noon on Sat., Oct. 8 at the Oak Park Farmers’ Market, 460 Lake St. Two forms of identification are required, including one that shows a current address. Acceptable forms of identification include a driver’s license, state identification card, mortgage or lease documents, and utility bills. The Township also offers voter registration at 105 S. Oak Park Ave. Call 708.383.8005 for details.

Register at Village Hall…Residents can register to vote in person from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday until Oct. 11 at Village Hall, 123 Madison St. Call 708.358.5670 or email clerk@oak-park.us for more information.

Looking ahead to April
Residents interested in running in the local municipal election scheduled for April 4, 2017 are now able to circulate petitions to be placed on the ballot. The petition filing period for the 2017 local election is Dec. 12 to 19.
