Man shot in early morning home invasion

June, 25, 2016 - Oak Park Police are investigating a home invasion and armed robbery in the 400 block of South Taylor Avenue early today that sent one man to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

Responding to multiple 911 calls at about 2 a.m., Police found the victim in the backyard of the house, along with several individuals who said they had been in the basement of the house with the victim prior to the shooting.

The victim, a 25-year-old Forest Park resident, was transported to Loyola Hospital in Maywood, his condition unknown. He was visiting the house where the incident occurred.

According to statements gathered at the scene, several friends and acquaintances were inside the basement with the victim. One of the occupants responded to a knock at the door and three armed male offenders pointed guns at him and forced their way inside.

The offenders reportedly announced a robbery and began taking personal possessions from the individuals inside.

Individuals inside the basement told Police they heard gunshots from the yard and the armed men ran out.  After hearing cries for help coming from the yard, they discovered the victim lying on the ground outside.

The investigation determined that the victim apparently had crawled through a window, but was shot as he attempted to flee by a fourth offender who had stayed outside while the others had entered the house.

The investigation is ongoing, Police say. More information will be released as it becomes available. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call 708.386.3800 or email police@oak-park.us. Anonymous tips can be made at 708.434.1636 or online at www.oak-park.us/crimetips.
