As part of its efforts to eliminate mosquitoes that carry West Nile virus, the Des Plaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District has scheduled spraying tonight in Oak Park. Should unfavorable weather conditions prevail, spraying will be delayed to a subsequent night. A calm, rainless evening with temperatures no more than 80 degrees is preferred.
If spraying occurs, it will be the first time this season in Oak Park. However, the mosquito abatement district has been spraying in other communities within its 77-square-mile jurisdiction. West Nile virus has been found in birds and mosquitoes throughout Illinois, including Oak Park.
Questions regarding spraying, including options for those medically sensitive to the insecticide, should be directed to 708.447.1765.
