Anyone engaging in peddling, commercial soliciting or
itinerant vending must obtain a license from the Village of Oak Park through
the Office of the Village Clerk. In addition to business licensing information
required by Village Code, the applicant also must provide the following
information to ensure the legitimacy of the operation, preclude deceptive
practices, and information for follow-up if there is a problem:
- Name and address of present place of residence and
length of residence at such address; business address if other than
residence address
- Physical description of the applicant;
- Name and address of the person, firm or corporation or association
by whom the applicant is employed or represents, and the length of time
of such employment or representation;
- Description sufficient for identification of the subject matter of
the soliciting in which the applicant will engage;
- Period of time for which the license is sought;
- Whether a license issued to the applicant by the Village of Oak Park
or any other municipality has ever been revoked;
- Whether the applicant has ever been convicted of
a violation of any of the provisions of the Oak Park Ordinance or an
ordinance of any other Illinois municipality regulating soliciting;
- Evidence that the applicant is authorized to solicit for the organization
represented;
- Whether the applicant has been convicted of a felony within the preceding
ten (10) years, or convicted of a misdemeanor or ordinance violation within
the preceding five (5) years, and the nature of the offense.
These regulations are in place for the protection of
the community. If you are suspicious about persons soliciting or peddling,
contact the Police Department or the Village Clerk's Office who can verify
that the person is engaging in a licensed activity. You may also request
no-soliciting stickers from the Village Clerk's Office to place on or
near the main entrance of your property.
