Parkway/R.O.W. Obstruction Permits Any activity that requires obstructing, using, closing or digging into the public right of way requires a right-of-way (ROW) permit to prevent damage to public property, protect public safety and coordinate among projects. The public right of way includes parkways, sidewalks, curbs, alleys and streets. Examples of projects that require a ROW permit include placing a trash dumpster, extending water service from a house to the main line, replacing a public sidewalk, building scaffolding or cranes on above sidewalks, closing a sidewalk for filming, or placing a moving container. A ROW permit costs $8 per day or $110 per month per 25 feet of obstructed property. Depending on the specific situation, safety protection measures such as signage, lighted barricades, fencing and/or traffic control measures may be required. In addition, a restoration deposit may be required if there is risk of damage to public property. A project also may require reimbursement for public safety protection if necessary. Any public property affected must be restored to original condition or better. Contact the Building & Property Standards Department to obtain a right-of-way obstruction permit. |
