Parking Ticket Payments

The basics of the parking ticket fine structure are as follows:

  • $20 for overtime parking at meters in business areas and in time-limited, non-metered parking on residential streets.
  • $20 for violations such as meter feeding, blocking a driveway or sidewalk or parking over a curb.
  • $30 for severe public safety violations, such as parking under a viaduct, too close to a fire hydrant or in a bus or cab loading zone; parking in a no parking zone; or double parking.
  • $250 for parking in handicapped zones.

To avoid late fees, a motorist has 14 days to pay or formally contest a parking citation. After 14 days, a late fee of up to $30 will be added to unpaid $20 and $30 tickets; and a $70 or $100 late fee will be added to certain $100 tickets, including illegally parking in a designated handicap space. In addition to fines and late fees, failure to pay a parking citation also can result in driver's license suspension or vehicle immobilization with a wheel-locking device.

Parking tickets may be paid by mail, on-line with a credit card , through a night deposit box at Village Hall or at the Permits and Ticket Office in Village Hall, 123 Madison St. Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card. Do not use cash if paying by mail or through the night deposit box. When payment is received by the Village – not when it is mailed – determines the payment date.

A vehicle owner who believes a parking citation was issued in error can contest the ticket in writing or in person at the date and time listed on the citation. The written appeal must be received no later than 14 days after the date the ticket was issued and should include all evidence the vehicle owner wishes to be considered, such as pictures and documents. You may choose only one method of appeal. Notification of the judgment should come within three weeks. Additional fees will be incurred if payment is not received within 14 days of the judgment. Written appeals also can be made on-line as well as in person through the Office of Adjudication, which uses administrative law judges to hear appeals at Village Hall.
