Vehicle sticker renewals...The deadline for purchasing 2004-05 Oak Park
vehicle stickers is June 30. The fine for not displaying a
valid vehicle sticker is $21 and increases to $31 after 14
days. Violators must pay the fine and purchase a vehicle
sticker. The annual vehicle window sticker fee for a passenger
car is $45, but residents age 65 and older pay $35. Residents
who have a disabled plate or disabled placard pay $35. Fees
increase $5 on the second day of each month, beginning July 2.
For more information call 358.5670 or email clerk@oak-park.us.
Private signs prohibited on public
property...Garage sale signs,
business sandwich board signs and other types of signs or obstructions
in the public right-of-ways are prohibited. For more
information, call 358.5700 or email publicworks@oak-park.us.
Water use restricted...State law mandates summer watering restrictions
for towns using Lake Michigan water. Through Sept. 15, outdoor
water use is limited Mondays through Fridays to even-numbered
street addresses on even-numbered days, and odd-numbered
addresses on odd-numbered days. Newly planted grass seed, sod,
trees and shrubs are exempt during their first 30 days of
growth. Call 358.5700 or email publicworks@oak-park.us.
Reconsider heat gun use...Any heat-producing device used to strip paint
from exterior surfaces can start a concealed structure fire.
Dry, combustible material such as wood shavings, old insulation
and wildlife nesting material, can ignite easily from the heat
of a stripping device, creating a fire between the studs where
convectional air currents may spread it vertically like a
chimney. Since the fire starts inside the wall, it can go
undetected until it has reached the upper floors or attic. For
more information, call 445.3300 or email fire@oak-park.us.
Maintain clear sight lines...Plantings at intersections may create a public
safety hazard if their height interferes with the line of sight
for pedestrians and vehicle operators. Corner plantings should
not exceed 18 inches in height. For more information, call
358.5700 or email publicworks@oak-park.us.
Lawnmower buy back...Residents can exchange old gas-powered
lawnmowers for a $150 rebate toward the purchase of any new
electric, battery-powered or non-motorized push mower from 8
a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., July 24 at State Police District 2
Headquarters, 9511 W. Harrison St., Des Plaines. The Illinois
EPA program is intended to help reduce air pollution. For more
information call 358.5700 or email publicworks@oak-park.us.

Preliminary design concepts for capping
the Eisenhower Expressway through Oak Park will be presented
for public review and discussion at 7 p.m., Tues., July 20, in
Council Chambers at the Village Hall, 123 Madison St. The
preliminary concepts are based on several months of public
input, technical research and community visioning sessions. The
preliminary design concepts to be presented at the meeting will
reflect the range of ideas gathered from the community in the
previous stages of the planning process, and are intended to
facilitate a continued community dialogue on what a cap over
the Ike could be. Public input on the concepts will be used to
further refine the designs and develop new concepts for further
consideration at public meetings later in the process. Cap
visions created by residents at workshops in May and June
include parks and recreation, new retail and commercial
opportunities, improved pedestrian and bicycle connections,
cultural and civic amenities, enhanced transit-oriented design
for the CTA station areas, residential development, and air and
noise pollution mitigation. For more information or to comment
on issues related to the Cap the
Ike Study, visit the project web
site at www.CapTheIkeStudy.com, call 358.5778 or send an
email to CapTheIke@captheikestudy.com.
