Commercial Building Inspections Every commercial building and non-residential structure in the Village is inspected at least annually for code compliance by the Building & Property Standards Department. These inspections document and seek corrective action of any building code and nuisance standards violations that relate to the building and its surrounding premises, including the alley area. Inspectors also check for life safety issues, including those related to fire prevention. The Fire Department independently conducts separate inspections of commercial buildings to ensure compliance with fire prevention and safety codes. Fire personnel also inspect all buildings with sprinkler systems, as well as churches, restaurants, libraries, schools, day care centers, hospitals and gas stations.
