Getting Around Bicycling in Oak Park The Village of Oak Park has a long tradition of encouraging safe cycling with bicycle friendly Share the Road signs at all major community entry points, written guidelines to help cyclists and motorists get along on the roadway and bike racks located throughout the community. The Village even offers fully enclosed, weatherproof bike lockers located at the intermodal CTA/Union Pacific station on North Boulevard at Marion Street. Bicycles also are permitted on CTA and Metra trains every day except during weekday rush hours of 7 – 9 a.m. and 4 – 6 p.m. All CTA and PACE buses serving Oak Park have bike racks mounted on them as well. Check the links along the right side of the page for a range of information for bicyclists. The Active Transportation Alliance (formerly the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation), a non-profit, volunteer-based bicycling advocacy organization, worked with the Village to develop a plan to expand residents’ transportation options with new bikeways and bike parking near local businesses. The plan also helped identify programs to promote bicycling as a safe, comfortable transportation option. Click here for more information on the plan. Information also is available by calling 358.5726 or e-mailing BikePlan@oak-park.us Click to visit the Oak Park Bicycling Plan web site
